It's hard to not be impressed by the ahead of it's time visual storytelling, intricately arranged shots, and prescient futurism. Kubrick's visionary ability to splice together separately filmed scenes into one shot adds immense depth that was unprecedented in it's time. However, he never missed a chance to remind you of this movie's fatal flaw -- Kubrick was high on his own supply.

Compelling if only in its ambition to illustrate an utterly bizarre dystopia. The visuals are impressive, the dialogue is not. Between the silly sfx and bizarre treatment of the major female characters, the movie is incredibly dated but entertainingly so.
Beautiful movie, a little more stylised than other major ghibli movies. Little long, don't love how the queen of iron town is resolved.
