Chulas Fronteras 1976
I’m emotional over seeing my culture captured so beautifully and vibrantly. I have been wanting to delve into Les Blank’s work and this felt like the obvious start. This has it all in just an hour span - my beautiful home (the Rio Grande Valley), tamales (I actually teared up during this), Flaco Jiménez absolutely shredding on the accordion… my heart just feels very warm after viewing.

Life is about deriving pleasure where you can. Sometimes it’s food, sometimes it’s sex, and if you’re a real freak it can be both (at the same time). This movie is equal parts wholesome and goofy and horny so you know it immediately makes it to my favorites list. If you do not like the sound of slurping DO NOT WATCH but just know you’re missing out.

The Demon 1963
There’s a lot to comment on about the film’s portrayal of patriarchy and its intersection with religion but on the surface it’s about a woman so heartbroken over the most mid man that it drives her to insanity mistaken for demonic possession and like, I get it. Been there queen.
