The Shield and the Sword 1968
Charming piece of propaganda, rather confusing but still very enjoyable. Oleg Yankovsky is so beautiful in this it hurts, far too beautiful to play a fascist (though he thankfully retires his wicked ways and becomes a spy like his little Latvian boyfriend).

For as long as I can remember, every time I would visit my uncle he'd bring up this fucking movie one way or another. It has him in such a Chong Li choke-hold he forced my cousins to watch it at least half a dozen times when they were much too young, and Van Damme's maroon thong has haunted them ever since.
And I must mention that my father has the biggest crush on Van Damme and started to defensively shout HE'S MINE HE'S MINE HE'S MINE when I passively agreed that he's not a bad looking feller, he also compared this movie to Brokeback Mountain.
