Was excited for this and then quickly lost interest as soon as they absurdly proclaimed Lucius the son of Maximus. Sorry that was one too many coincidences for me and it jusy became another bad, cliched, "chosen one" story. I didn't know this was the start of the next Skywalker saga.
Paul also lacked the presence and charm of Russell that was part of what made Gladiator so great. Overall it was fine for a blockbuster film but they tried doing too much to force enjoyment and it just fell flat for me.
Edit: Tried watching Gladiator again afterwards and it just makes me angry now.
