The message and values that this documentary focuses on are appealing to a somewhat niche population but I am one of those people. The mixed reviews are understandable but I was absolutely enchanted by it. The actual artistic nature and simplicity of the subject matter are appealing and the commitment to a (now frowned upon) ethic stands strong. There was a negative review somewhere that berated the film for promoting a "work until you're dead" mentality but there's obviously a…

Boyhood 2014
The last and only other time I had seen Boyhood was the summer between my sophomore and junior year of high school if I remember correctly. I had held the belief that this was my favorite film of all time up until I started really getting into films about 3 and a half years later. Rewatching it now I can see some obvious flaws with the film, the "dude" cliches are outdated and the acting from a few of the…

Don't think this one's for me. I mean how many movies can you make about newspaper men? We get it, they suck. I'd rather not watch Kirk Douglas be a terrible person for literally the entire movie and nothing else. Also, is this even an adaptation of the Floyd Collins story? Cause they literally mention it in the film. So is it more like a 4th walk break? Or a sequel? Whatever, I've been to where Collins has died and I'd say he deserves better.

The French Dispatch 2021
More enjoyable on this third watch of mine. Nice to have three very different, heartfelt messages in each featured article. Not necessarily the Anderson storytelling I've come to know and love but it's a successfully executed film nonetheless. Be warned, nothing about this is a relaxing watch and it's a cruel assumption to believe I'll comprehend everything. Also, why did we skimp out on using Jarvis Cocker's "Aline"? You can't drop such an amazing song and play so little of it.

At Eternity's Gate 2018
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
At Eternity's Gate is gonna have its haters but I was just in complete awe of this movie. Schnabel decided to take two of the three things that I adore most in cinema, nature and psychological analysis, and excel in the representation of both. Prepare to be completely immersed in the landscapes that Van Gogh travels and yearning to walk among the olive trees. Rolling hills and golden hues breathe life into the film, making one realize that his natural…

I could probably rewatch this seven more times. Lesbians breaking free of oppression and getting revenge is such a damn beautiful niche genre.
