Rewatch season is in full swing and what better way to kick it off than with one of the most iconic horror franchises. Saw was a favorite growing up, expanding into what would become 7+ films; for a good reason.

Taking a nonsupernatural approach, its originality in both the villain's philosophy and methods went on to spawn the now popular puzzle/trap subgenre of horror. Along with masterful directing by James Wan, the ending itself is single-handedly worth the watch. A classic.

    Spirited Away

    ★★★★½

There are only a handful of movies that can bring everything together perfectly, and Spirited Away is widely considered one of them. The attention to detail in every aspect is astounding, bringing together music, art, and a story that rivals anything before its release and up into the modern age of animation.

There are parts of this film that people of any age or culture can appreciate, and it shines decades later as an inspiration for animators and studios alike. A pinnacle of Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, it deserves its praise as one of the greatest animated films ever created.

The most disturbing movie I've seen in years. In unique fashion, a seemingly ordinary family situation quickly turns into a haunting that doesn't pull any punches.

  • Run

    Run

    ★★★

While the direction is quickly revealed, it's foreshadowing doesn't retract from the thrills. Riding on another great performance from Sarah Paulson, Run has us solving the mystery of what is really going on alongside the main character; a good matinee watch on the weekend.
