Le Bonheur 1965
Kino’s back on the menu boys. This movie was really freaking good. Beautiful popping colors and wonderfully shot. A nice dream like exterior for a real nightmarish scenario. Very tongue and cheek and subtle filmmaking. Agnes Varda has the juice. And the French New Wave style editing really heightens the emotions, particularly in THAT scene, just creating a gut punch. The film does a really good job of examining all the bullshit ways men can lie to themselves and rationalize their behavior. But it does so in a way that is fantastically subtle. Varda just lets the film breathe. Fantastic film and my first Varda!

God I freaking hate this awful bootstraps propaganda.
Also to add insult to injury, Will Smith actually gives a decent performance. TerribleTranslated from by -
