The Great Mouse Detective 1986
i'm as much of a sucker for a Sherlock Holmes riff as i am a sworn enemy of awful scottish accents, so i was a little torn by this one at first. however, by the climactic action of the third act i was won over, especially seeing where Die Hard got their inspiration for one of hollywood's most enduring moments! i was a little discombobulated by the parallel mouse and human worlds, but thinking too hard about it makes my nose run.

In the Lost Lands 2025
sometimes films don't have to be good to be enjoyable!
if you've seen the trailer - or the combined output of the Anderson household in the last 15 years or so - then you already know what you're getting, so it's nobody else's fault if you didn't enjoy watching it. admittedly this one is a little more Sucker Punch than most, and the post-apocalypse/high fantasy tone is silly as hell, but again i ask: what were you expecting? Bautista is great even in tosh, and Paul loves watching Milla slice and dice in slo-mo. nothing ever changes, and nothing ever will.
no notes.

Other People 2021
vile, hopeless, homophobic, racist people doing terrible things and living terrible, grey (literally, barely any colour in the entire film) lives, all whilst rapping along to Jesus, played by Poundland Thor. cineworld's not showing Benedetta but showing this?? ridiculous.
