On second watch I think the apprentice in my opinion is my favorite movie of 2024. It’s perfectly structured in its narration, shot beautifully while still capturing the raw and overwhelming increase of conflict. The acting is realistic while having elements of absurdity.
And the message creeps up slowly but noticeably until it’s wrapped around the audience forcing us into absorbing and engaging in an human understanding, emotionally nuanced yet definitive and straightforward stance.

While I do get the abstract element this movie tries to display, but it’s just so boring
And yes sometimes leaving a movie with a couple of questions is needed, but this movie literally leaves everything up for questioning, nothing connects, nothing is said or explained, too many things going on, and too little and slow at the same time, like why are the “important” scenes very short, and the scenes that need to be short get dragged out…
I Like wong kar wai
But 2046 was very boring, I genuinely couldn’t keep up, I like wong’s choice of photography, but it’s very depressing this time, the first half hour of this movie had great color themes, dialogue, and pacing, but then it all went down.
Too long, pointless, suffocating
I had a hard time keeping up because of how long some unnecessary scenes were. They were dragging the fuck out of them.
