Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion 1997
As much it’s spiteful, venomous and unpleasant in tone (and towards its audience!) kinda wild how it ultimately reaches the same thematic conclusion as the original series (you gotta live your own life, you gotta discover your own sense of self separate from what others expect of you). Albeit, this gets there by way of “regretful emptiness experienced after action” rather than “gently prodded but guided epiphany”.
Also in hindsight, would make for an interesting double feature with I Saw The TV Glow? ISTTG as self-denial after introspective confrontation vs this as self-destruction.
