kept me interested and guessing the whole way through. and i got to see nic cage in person so five fucking stars.

a story reminiscent of 'a man for all seasons' where an individual stands up resolutely to a king. however, what's different is becket's transformation from a dispassionate, cynical rationalist into a devoted man of god. richard burton shows us the cracks of becket's former incarnation in subtle ways. the transition is believable. scenes that involve both burton and o'toole are pure fun. o'toole is a master.
