  I could rate this higher if it weren't being dragged down by the rest of this movie; the half star here is held up significantly by the very entertaining and action-packed final act. while the first part of this movie definitely slogs and takes its time in setting the scene and the stage, and probably could have benefitted massively from some trimming of extraneous exposition, it is very easy to immediately root for this cast of characters and their meaning…

  really wanted to rewatch this after this did so well during awards season, mainly because I really felt I had missed something that others were seeing, and I'm definitely willing to say I enjoyed this more watching it for the second time (typically the opposite, but fair enough). still doesn't really kick in for me until they get married, and the tone shift is still somewhat jarring and sudden, but once that shift lands and this movie takes off this…

  cool ideas regarding identity and feeling like an imposter/like you don’t truly belong anywhere, absolutely stunning visually as well, but ultimately 20 minutes is far too little time to get something like this across without it feeling more like a student film than a personal expression of one’s clashing identity. still, I did vibe with it thematically as an Arab as well. just would have much preferred to see this as a full length thing instead of having barely any time to marinate with anything before moving on to the next thing.
