I was in for a social commentary and got a family drama. The movie is, nevertheless, a powerhouse. Though one could claim a powerhouse that heavily relies on its epilogue.
I’m still here is the definition of commanding filmmaking, maintaining its evident magesty throughout. The people behind the movie are skillful experts; there are no doubts about that. Despite that, it really was not to my taste.
To me Origin by Ava Duvernay, is the better American version of what “I’m Still Here” could have been. The parallels between the two are so obvious that, except for the cultural context, they could be called sister movies.
9 Oscar nominations? Lol.
Besides the boring story and incoherent soundtrack, All Quiet on the Western Front is a lesson on how not to end a movie. 2 hours and a half that I’ll never get back.
