I’m not queer. I’m just disembodied.

Yo, this is insane. Queer is melancholic and listless as its protagonist, while at the same time being one of the most lived-in films I’ve seen in a while. It’s like a perfect culmination of Luca’s work so far: it’s similar to Bones and All through its shared themes of addiction, to Call Me by Your Name with its exploration of longing and loneliness, Suspiria with its bizarre visual flare and elements, and even…

It’s been a while since I’ve talked in one of my reviews of the film itself and its strengths. I did it more in my early logs, but since then I focused more on some of the changes from the book, the new TV show, its little thematic overlap with ASOIAF & House of the Dragon, my experience with the film, and some of my favorite quotes, but after seeing that the hype kinda fell since its release back in March, I…

“No more terrible disaster could befall your people than for them to fall into the hands of a Hero.”

Stilgar. Paul’s knife. In his all-timer of a speech, Paul said: "Would you smash a knife before battle?" Paul is here to change the Fremen ways and he is just not going to respect the thousands of years of their culture. I truly love how Stilgar in both Dune parts is used as a vehicle to show the effects of fundamentalism…

    (The Extended Bootleg Cut)

The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what you share with someone else when you're uncool.

When I usually think about the coming-of-age subgenre, Almost Famous might be the first one that pops into my mind, simply because of how timeless it feels, how wide it spreads. It’s pure magic. It’s a quintessential pinnacle of coming-of-age filmmaking with so much vibes and style, but also the same amount of substance. Not only do I…

    Paul and Irulan in Messiah:

I hug who I want to. I hug who I love. Particularly when they are affected by the selfishness of others and need cheering up!
    - Who are you referring to?
    - Camilla.
    - Why would I care about her?!
    - Because I care about her! Morning. noon. and night I care about her. and you hurt her. and if you hurt her, you hurt me. Camilla is who I want. that is where my…

La La Land is a triumph. A spell-binding film that took my breath away once again. A celebration of colors contrasted by breathtaking monochromatic backdrops. Damien Chazelle reminds the increasingly minimalistic world of motion pictures what films are actually made for— motion— he invites us to tap our feet, spin around like we're in a silent film, and dance along to the gradual build-up of trombones, with some of the most fluid, energetic camerawork and precise choreography I’ve ever seen in film. I cannot give this any less than a perfect rating. I am a proud sucker for this film and its music.
