True to life, gritty, and emotional. This will likely be remembered as crime auteur Waugh’s greatest achievement. For fans of Shot Caller, this manages to be even more raw but with much more heart. Phenomenal performances all around, led by the often overlooked Dorff and the legend Kilmer. Excellent supporting performances by Harold Perrineau going against type, and the compelling Marisol Nichols. Blown away by this one.

The Lighthouse 2019
Ultimately I found The Lighthouse to be a bit too self indulgent to award 5 stars, although the craft was certainly extraordinary. Maybe my favorite Dafoe performance ever. Pattinson pads his resume as one of our young greats again here. Ultimately I wanted a bit more of a coherent story out of it. I loved spending time in this world. An absolute sham this wasn’t nominated for more Oscars
