In 2004, I took a screenwriting elective in high school. One session, we focused on music in film. Our homework was to listen to the Magnolia soundtrack and then our teacher showed us the Wise Up scene the following day. That was my introduction to Aimee Mann and she completely shattered my world without even knowing the context of the scene. Finally a Sarah Dessen book is adapted correctly! Where there were a lot of details I missed, especially Auden’s connection with her sister, I thought this was beautiful and sweet and fun. Would I have preferred an 8 episode limited series that really delved into each character? Absolutely. But the casting was wonderful, the added/changing of storylines worked well, and overall it was faithful to the Sarah Dessen we know and love.

The half star is for Taylour Paige and Jennifer Jason Leigh who should have been the focus of the entire movie.

Truly one of the worst movies I have ever seen.
