we become complicit in and simultaneously deprived of witnessing the violence and torture we expected from this film. i feel trolled, bamboozled and personally attacked. i love it.

Joker: Folie à Deux 2024
the issue here wasn’t the musical aspect of it, it’s the fact that this film gives surface level answers to the nuanced questions that made the first film so compelling. it was just unnecessary, and diminishes the point of the first film.
but that’s its only flaw (even if it is a big one)
the musical numbers actually added to the absurdity and i think todd phillips outdid himself with the cinematography. it’s just a pity that the narrative was redundant and that the film said nothing that hasn’t already been said in the first film.
