Yea, this is what movies are about, amazing movie, what a work of art by Cauleen Smith. Movies are meant to tell stories and Drylongso explains it all. Pica might be the coolest character I’ve ever seen in a film. Also, it’s refreshing to see this medium that’s entirely white male dominated from the black woman’s perspective. We as a people are beautiful and we deserve the chance to live, to feel alive, to feel like we have existed, to be remembered, through Pica, Cauleen Smith tenderly invigorates that sentiment through 81 minutes.

I absolutely love this, a new favourite.

    Happy Black History Month, onward!

I have nothing of note right now other than jotting down that Rachel and Mama—the only two black characters—are used as a way of showing Cosmos Vittelli’s humanistic/natural characteristics. I wonder if this is done intentionally by Cassavetes, would it have changed the feeling of the film had it been with any of the other white strippers and their mother? Rachel’s aggressiveness as well as possessiveness appear a bit nonsensical and excessive especially when she beats up the auditioning stripper. In another rendition, Mama could have served as an even stronger character but her character lacks with Cassavetes’ infantilisation of her.
