i feel like we’re all part of some terrifying conspiracy where all the incels, basic-ass cinephiles and pretentious film bros came together and collectively declared this piece of shit a masterpiece

    the magic of cannes

on my last night in town i take a spur-of-the-moment decision to try the last minute line for the 10 pm premiere at the lumiere

and just like that, after a week of cinematic mediocrity, i have found my personal winner

the visual poetry is sublime and so is the music, the cinematography, the editing

it’s the most tender film i have seen in years

it looks gorgeous without sacrificing even an ounce of authenticity

what can i say? payal kapadia’s artistry is unmatched

i love a slow, windswept period melodrama as much as the next girl but my heart truly goes out to all the australian actresses who had to watch an actual swede get cast as "local girl isabel"

finally a film that was made with actual
    love and care!

a mindfuck of a psychological drama but also a thoroughly authentic perspective on quirky girlhood

well that the most half arsed standing ovation in my entire cannes experience

not sure why because what’s not to like about all those cheesy references and parody bits?

this was basically the fellowship of the ring on acid with badges, lanyards and goodie bags

cate blanchett does some epic face acting

also, i’m willing to forgive the lazy stereotypes and the few jokes that didn’t land because when that ethereal enya-style song stared playing i absolutely lost it
