The Substance 2024
We all like the films of Kubrick, Cronenberg, Carpenter, De Palma, etc. What I didn’t see was any reason to like this film, other than the constant references to those film makers.
Great prosthetics, though.

Alien: Romulus 2024
Really really REALLY could’ve done without the gross (and terrible looking) Ian Holm digital resurrection. That shit sucks hard. Also didn’t need the pointless and awkward callback to “get away from her, you bitch,” (especially given Ridley hasn’t even said the line yet in the in-universe timeline).
But overall, great, fun return to the horror format of the original. Especially the abundance of practical effects after Prometheus and Covenant were really hampered by way too much bad CGI.
Good performances in general, but man, David Jonsson really killed.
Also, gimme those stompers.
