I really enjoyed Coralie’s short Reality+ which felt like a proof of concept for The Substance, so I’m surprised this one bombed so hard for me. The theme was interesting but it wasn’t explored in a meaningful way. There was no plot, no character development and a repetitive cycle of: we’re Sue! Now we’re Elizabeth! Sue’s dancing! Eisabeth’s eating! Repeat. The only thing that kept me watching was the train-wreck effect: I knew bodies would explode at some point.
