  Rewatched cuz ppl talk about this movie as if it were some kind of major modern classic, and bc I love the Gone Girl song by Sza. Movie sucks ass though, dark ass view of human nature that casts women as lying masterminds and men as callous thugs - every single line of dialogue is disingenuous, there’s not a genuine  moment of emotion in the whole thing. It has the Mamet disease of trying to make the dialogue so flashy but actually just making every character so fucking obnoxious. We laughed a lot at her line about cool girls “waxing their pussy raw”

  Amazingly unfunny but my experience was also compounded by a horrible theater situation that had nothing to do with the movie but made it even worse, where the woman next to me was violently coughing and sneezing throughout the whole trailers (ten minutes or so of straight coughing) such that I literally put my shirt over my face as a mask, she left at a certain point to get water or whatever and then came back and just started sneezing…

  I knew I was riveted because I didn’t get up to pee once. Performances were amazing — I think my favorite I’ve seen of both Natalie & Julianne Moore — but I think what was really special about this was how well observed the details of the household and the family dynamic were.
