  This was shaping up for me to be an all timer but the second half (particularly the epilogue) took me out of it slightly. 

  the score is unbelievable (strings!!!) and the editing is particularly brilliant, with the montages that tended to signal the passing of time in particular being amazing. the film looks absolutely wonderful and it’s genuinely unbelievable something of this scale was made on a budget as tight as that. both scenes in the marble and coal quarries…
