Cool moods. For me this film is an example of a movie that’s incredibly well made but where all of the side characters are more engaging than the chosen protagonist. If Day-Lewis was the supporting character, and literally anyone else in the film was made the lead, Phantom Thread would have worked better for me. She’s not on screen for long but Harriet Samson Harris could have been this person, she was great.

Also the score and cinematography in this film is beautiful.

So much shit goes down in this movie, and the fact that it still makes me feel good and excited about life every time I finish it is a test to its timelessness. Independent filmmaking done right.

Spiritual Ice Age - filmmaking that’s a blend of Alice in Wonderland, Studio Ghibli and Watership Down. Really liked it, and was super impressed that it was able to hold my attention without any dialogue whatsoever.

Also I loved how the water was animated.

    The Zone of Interest

Just needed 20 more minutes and this would have been a perfect film for me. Regardless though, what’s here was incredibly engaging. At this point World War II and the Holocaust are such heavily documented events in cinema that it’s hard to imagine someone today being able to create something fresh and relevant, but Glazer does this in spades. The Zone of Interest as a whole is one big experiment, so while it’s edges may be a bit rough or not exactly landing, I really respect the boldness of Glazers direction and the whole creative team. Will definitely revisit.
