Watched this just after finishing the book (which I adored!) and whilst I liked the movie enough, I wish I’d liked it as much as I liked the book.

I thought it was a decent enough adaptation but I do agree with some of the criticisms levelled at the movie.

    My two main gripes are:

    1) I didn’t like the way the movie had Ari react to the kiss - I get that they probably did it to be more…

The colourisation itself is fantastic, even better than The Daleks. The new special effects are pretty good too, not too distracting.

Would it be blasphemy if I said that I (slightly) prefer this to the animated version?

This version adds more depth to the characters, the new songs (aside from The Scuttlebutt) are great, and the cast (aside from Javier Bardem) are on form.

If you’re going to do an (unnecessary IMO) remake, this is the way it should be done.

The only issues I had were that it felt a little too long, The Scuttlebutt, and Javier Bardem was kinda phoning it in. Otherwise, it was a pretty solid adaptation.
