The First Slam Dunk 2022
Seemingly a focus on Ryota Miyagi rather than adapting the final game faithfully, The First Slam Dunk creates a tonal dissonance from its source material and deviates from what truly makes the series so endearing. The main cast felt stripped of their original personalities and diluted to create a more mature gritty retelling, despite the series core strengths deriving from its charming cast and their great chemistry. The production value was enough to salvage what made an okay viewing experience and I did love a few changes that recontextualised the game.
