  like much of netflix’s output these days, it’s overlong and over-produced (there wasn’t enough substance for 6 episodes, perhaps 4 at a push). particularly since this story is, yes, nasty and gratifying, but also tragic to the point where sometimes it’s genuinely hard to watch. you can’t help but sympathise with (almost) everyone involved, no matter how narcissistic or mean or selfish or dumb as a bag of fucking rocks they are. 

  kaitlyn dever is as always an absolute wonder…

  When Mitski talked about ‘one good movie kiss’? She definitely had just watched this movie. 

  Could this be made in 2019? The originality? The vaguely steampunk vibes? James McAvoy in a fedora? Peter Dinklage in an eyepatch?? Detective Lenny Henry??? Cinema died in 2007, people. I’m so glad 11 year old me got to see this firsthand.
