  A dreamlike folk-horror that treats its ostensibly child-aged audience with a great amount of respect. I enjoyed what I saw, even if I did doze off sometimes, which kind of enhanced its off-kilter sensibilities.

  I'll give Mr. Lanthimos this: he sees people and relationships in ways I've never even considered before. Show this film to a film "normie" and watch their head explode. It's not gonna be fun explaining it to them afterwards, though.

  A mess of a film that tries for Lovecraft, but doesn't get anywhere near close enough to the sublimity needed to warrant it. The worst part? The downer ending without any big reveals that ultimately renders the story entirely pointless. It's a shaggy dog story, but none of the shaggy dogs are interesting enough for us to care.

  It's already blending in with other winter-based Lovecraft lites in my head. Not recommended.
