I usually can't stand horror, so it was nice to enjoy something in the genre so thoroughly.
Immaculately directed. Great use of colors, sometimes it looked like I was watching a 1950s cartoon, very vibrant and eye-catching. Mia Goth acted her ass off. Probably the strangest Ghibli movie. I went into this completely blind and expected a grounded, cute kind of story. When really it's strange, surreal, and takes place in a magical land.
As always, spectacular animation. Some of the scenes here are gorgeous to look at. The main house is beautiful but obviously the other world shines with its off-kilter imagery. Charming animal friends too - the parakeets were a lot of fun.
