The Substance 2024

This movie feels like they got one third of the way through script writing and one writer joked, "Wouldn't it be really funny if..." And then another writer said, "Holy shit, that'd be hilarious. I'm starting on it right now." And the first writer said, "I was kidding..."
So 4 stars. The world was not ready for The Substance. It was a pleasant surprise. Though I thought it would end with her being accused of beating her ill elderly mom, I'm so glad it didn't. It was different; it was unique.

Orion and the Dark 2024

I enjoyed the idea, and I loved how deep and dark Orion's fears could be. The beginning is really well done.
The movie is often switching between the fictional past and the present of Orion as a father telling his daughter this story. I wish they had ditched the concept of it being a fictional story and maybe ditched the whole bedtime story aspect. It lessens the stakes and makes the ending too complex. Orion grows as a character throughout the movie, but almost none of it feels earned. I feel his daughter ends up stealing a lot of the emotional development his character needed
