  My favourite Lynch film. It's a complementary half to Mulholland Drive. There are plenty of different ways you can interpret this film, but all of them are less true to me than accepting the surreal and nonsensical dream for what it is - a dream. It's as if it's a puzzle that is constructed in order to tempt us to find meaning in it - and it almost fits - but we are left empty handed.

  I think this film is a cult classic because it is such an extreme example of the 90's cool vibe - reflected mainly in the fantastical hacking scenes (with increasingly psychedelic visuals the deeper into the mainframe Crash Override and his team go), the rapid costume changes (a runway show of futuristic cyber-punk outfits - as if the wardrobe team is trying to one-up each other to see who can best blur the line between embodying the aesthetic and parodying…
