A sensational piece of cinema in many senses. The first scene arriving into Ellis Island; László making his first metal chair and desk combination, iconised on the film's poster; shovelling coal whilst an expensive black car drives towards him; panning shots of an Italian marble quarry whilst an ex-Partisan talks about only leaving the area to kick Mussolini's body in 1945; endless dinner parties and picnics with the try-hard Pennsylvania aristocracy. Dear Kelly 2024
Not sure Andrew's radicalization theory holds up. In Kelly's case, rather than the loss of security, significance and community, it is ultimately a loss of pride and refusal to see oneself as anything other than a "boss" or "a success", mixed with a pre-existing conservative politics, that seems to drive his descent into far-right activism. Nonetheless this is still a deeply personal and compelling documentary, mixed with the usual sprinkling of Channel 5 weirdness.

O Brother, Where Art Thou? 2000
Watched this first time round on an edible and loved it. Watched it second time sober and quite literally just as good.
