Santosh Sivan and Rajinikanth ? But it's not Mani Ratnam this time, and you can feel it... The direction is very, very weak, not to say bad. At one point, the director throws in some double-focus effects, which do nothing to enhance the mise-en-scène or the story. Just like setting the plot in Mumbai, what for ?

Finally, Anirudh composes the background music as if it were Hans Zimmer. He'd lost a bet, no doubt. The saturated strings and over-compressed…

Disability protects me from nostalgic reunions of this kind, as I have no friends from my youth. Except Sonic, of course, my best friend for life. Nevertheless, this film... What a gentle kindness and tender atmosphere, what a comfort. The editing and the melancholy music work wonders. A feel-good film, even if it is a little too long for my taste. The second half is reminiscent of Meiyazhagan throughout.

Simply one of the most beautiful films of its time, plastically speaking, in terms of light, photography, it's sumptuous : obviously, Santosh Sivan. It's an insatiable delight in shades of gold, brown, dark green and creamy white. With music by master Ilaiyaraaja, of course.
It's hard to think of anything more to say that hasn't been said before. Rajinikanth and Mammootty (let's not forget Shobana), I'm left speechless by such a spectacle ; a friendship that borders on divine love. Rarely have I seen Rajinikanth so overwhelmed with despair ; he abandoned this style of play afterwards.

A star for Tapsee, but only if your character gets divorced. Leave him. Choose the bear.

(What a hell of a movie. This is so bad)
