  Put this film off because of the reviews it received. It obviously isn't a serious film but I watched this with my girlfriend and we found it entertaining and funny

  As my friend said, "just an extended modern love episode". For me, I had the added issue of my girlfriend being asian, so i did not find the relationship endearing and heartwarming. I felt the paranoia of the American guy.

  Best Miyazaki film. The People I watched it in the cinema with found it boring and the characters unlikeable. But I found the themes to be extremely emotional and profound, answering the question of how to go on finding beauty and affirming your life after experiencing tragedy.

  SPOILER:
  The fact he chooses the real world over the fantasy world demonstrating that he has overcome and accepted the grief of his mother's death. And won't avoid that by escaping towards fantasy. This part I found incredibly touching
