  The Electric State 2025

  I loved the trailer to this so much that I bought the book. It's a wonderful, strange, and sad story. This film, on the other hand, is dogshit. The story is a mess, the acting terrible, and it completely fails to get the melancholy of the original book. In place of a sad and tired world we get pop culture references. The fact this is the 13th most expensive movie ever made just compounds the insult.

  I mean, it serves me right for watching blockbuster movies. But I am amazed that people spent $320,000,000 on something this cackhanded.

  Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy 2025

  Nothing wrong with this film, it just wasn't my thing.

  All the scenes of ghosts and hauntings suggested a much more interesting movie so I did my best to watch that. And, obviously, the whole reason for the ghosting was that the character in question was dead.

  Also, can we call an end to legacy sequels featuring credits montages of the earlier films?

  I hate musicals and I hate pop-star biopics. Except, apparently, when the main character is played by a CGI monkey

  Having the main character as a metaphor allowed a lot of the conflicts to be played out on that level, rather than simply melodrama. The film is unflinching about addiction and poor behaviour - and it's amazing how unobtrusive the monkey aspect of things are there.

  The dance numbers were fun and helped move the story along - the Rock…
