I'm a huge sucker for any movie where actors get to flex by playing characters playing characters, and this movie delivers in spades. The story is a reverse breaking bad where a school teacher is drawn into honest police work while maintaining the lie of being a hitman to his loved ones, and like the writers of breaking bad linklater is a master of scenes, letting us boil with the characters as he turns up the tension.
Unlike breaking bad…
We've transcended the original's brutal realism to a hyper real nightmare world oozing visual spectacle and propelled along by relentless pace. Not a second or a shot is wasted, a perfect action movie.
I went into this movie expecting to judge it based on it's political statement, and I'm glad it decided to do something different, because modern politics is actually a sad and boring story.
In addition to not being very political, this movie isn't really about the story or the characters, this is war correspondence from alternate history.
This movie gives form to the fear of civil war with terrifying detail. Humvees still in their desert camo come home to American…
Not as stylish as a bond film, not as clever as the man from uncle, and with worse action than John Wick, dead reckoning comes in at a languid 2 hours and 45 minutes. The film takes a meandering tour of action sequences we've seen done much better in other movies, including a 45 minute car chase whose central joke is that women can't drive.
Vanessa Kirby hamming it up and the escape from the falling train are genuinely great, but they're not worth seeing the movie for.
I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone.
