So good… and yet
It doesn’t have the satisfaction of the first one. This is by design, I understand, but it makes the film less vital, as it’s the incomplete part of a story.
It sets up a VERY interesting problem at the end, but it might have been told in a more coherent way. This film relies on it’s prequel somewhat to give some narrative weight.

As the movie was wrapping up I turned to look at my aging if father to see if he was breathing. He had shut his eyes over an hour ago. As I observed, 5, 10, 15 seconds passed before I saw his chest rise with the gift of air. I found myself breathing a sigh of relief, giving quiet thanks that this would not be the last movie that I would watch with my dad.
I always tell people I have two favorite movies from 2019. One is Academy Award™️ winning Parasite, and the other is The Lighthouse.
Parasite is the most recommendable movie of that year—social commentary, class warfare, family drama, personal strife. The Lighthose—a story of two farting masturbators who drink themselves to death while stranded on an island—is more difficult to pass along.
