first 10 minutes are incredibly well acted and the emotions are established with such nuance and skill, immediately putting it a few cuts above just another throwaway slasher flick. It really feels like one movie starts in the middle of another movie because of how well realized the character drama is. not to mention more than a few moments of brilliance creating tension in a way that feels organic. not everything is perfect (drags towards the middle and a couple clichés), but I think this movie strikes a chord between authenticity and atmosphere that most home invasion movies are not able to. very underrated.

suffers that same thing that most 90s anime efforts do wherein they create a visually stunning experience with fantastic action set pieces (which this has, particularly the bathroom scene) and are way too short, and place too little emphasis on fleshing out character motivations/emotions *cough cough ghost in the shell*. apart from that preaching, I love how violent this is. I love the seedy tone and nihilism. I even love what they managed to pull off w the ending, nearly (but not quite) making up for that earlier criticism about the lackluster emotions.
