This is indeed a strange one. 30 years after Forrest Gump, Hanks, Wright & Zemeckis reunite for this generational tale of a piece of ground in 'somewhere-ville', USA. The constant static camera is the unique 'film-making' element, with AI / CGI playing a major role in the whole process. The premis is interesting enough, but where it should be touching, it's soul-less, and where it should be dramatic, it's just empty. An interesting idea, spoilt by over reliance on 'style' rather than substance.

Heretic 2024
Casting directors love a 'left-field' lead actor selection (think Steve Carel in 'Foxcatcher'), & Hugh Grant has loads of fun playing the dastardly Mr Reed in this claustrophobic thriller/horror. Sophie Thatcher & Chloe East play the entrapped protagonists, and the script and direction is suitably effective. The story starts interestingly enough, with a thoughtful take on how religion dominates human existence, but after a taught opening 30 minutes it descends into type and ultimately disappoints.

A Complete Unknown 2024
Biopics are tricky customers. The line between 'portrayal' & 'impression' can be very blurry. Timothee Chalamet's uncomfortable caricature of 'Bobby D' proves the point. The supporting cast are the highlight here, with Elle Fanning terrific as the besotted girlfriend 'Sylvie' & Edward Norton's angelic Pete Seeger being the highlight. The…

Oppenheimer 2023
I'm sure this had 'strong Oscar contender' plastered all over the 'pitch' to the film studio and with Nolan, Murphy, Damon, Blunt & Downey (jnr) involved, this was never going to be anything other than 'fabulous'. At 3+ hours it required a very comfortable cinema seat and I can't help thinking that a Netflix '5-parter' would have been a more deserving option for the subject matter. But I guess you don't win Oscars that way...
