there’s plenty to criticize here but i also thought there was a lot to like. i understand why people would be upset about casting a cis woman in the lead, but in 2005 it’s actually really remarkable to me that they chose to cast a woman to play a trans woman. and i think that’s reflected throughout the film—bri is not treated as a man in a dress, the film really does see her as a woman.
