Unreal on the big screen. My thirst for mystery and paranoia met with a lush banquet- ripe and bursting.
Phenomenal. Just incredible. Not a moment I wasn’t distraught; blood on the boots, ash in the river, fire in the sky- seeping into Eden, bleeding through the wall, permeating the familial/met with absurd defiance. Truly devastating. A masterpiece.
Sumptuously shot and scored, terrific performances and writing. The ending is certainly appropriate for the films tone I just wanted more, more delirium, more paranoia, as well as a greater material consequence, alas- an ultimately delicate and softer psychedelia.
Still can’t tell if Sono is a feminist or a raging misogynist
It’s fun and relentless and certainly interesting to see America depicted from outside of the western cultural sphere. Really clunky though: parts of real tribulation and intrepid determination are mixed in with cartoonish moments and it is essentially ruined by a truly bizarre personification of the films critical narrative. Subtlety bleeds hard and fast but maybe that’s the point?
