Pretty rock solid plot based storytelling. Very funny and engaging, but Anora’s attitude did not automatically grant her the agency she deserved. We rarely had any insight into her inner world, only getting small glimpses through Igor and the films ending.
With that said, Sean Baker is one of my favorite contemporary filmmakers, but I feel like his misogyny has been coming through in his last couple films.
I feel 0 connection to any of these character but I did have a good time. The film took itself too seriously but god bless Willlem Dafoe for not doing that. It was a relief every time he was on screen bc this film is so fucking absurd! I wish Eggers leaned into that more in a way I know he’s capable of.

No but actually I found something kind of moving about Daniel Craig’s performance. So much gay longing and the loneliness of gay masculinity. It was nice to see Luca really ~using the medium~ with its dream sequences and soundtrack. I do wish there was a little more character development, but I’m glad this film is definitely not for the straights!
