Wonka was magical.
I really enjoyed it from start to finish. Timothee Chalamet was wonderful in the lead role, and Paul King created a fitting prequel that pays homage to the Gene Wilder classic but doesn’t feel locked in that world. “Piece by Piece” really shouldn’t work. I really want to know where the idea came form. Did someone approach Pharrel and say “we want to make a documentary of your life” to which he replied “ok, but only if we make it with legos!” Who pitched the idea to Lego? Or did Lego come up with it? I truly am curious.
But regardless of its origins, this is a great movie. What could have been a self indulgent biopic instead…

Poor Things 2023
I feel like I fundamentally missed something in “Poor Things”, the Academy Award nominee for Best Picture.
I think Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, and Willem Dafoe were brilliant, and Stone and Ruffalo deserve their acting nominations. I loved the cinematography and the fantastical nature of much of the scenery.
But this was a shit movie.
I understand the concept that some believe this was an exploration of a young woman learning about herself and coming into her own agency.
