A horror movie that's more style than substance, Candyman's reboot is a worthy homage to the 90s classic that fails to meaningfully tie together themes of social injustice with the myth of the titular character.

    Things I liked:
The body horror elements made the slasher parts a lot less boring for me

    Good pacing

    Things I didn't like:
Themes like gentrification and policing are presented throughout the film but never meaningfully explored. Kinda disappointing that a film written by none other than Jordan Peele successfully expands over the classic's story but fails to be as adventurous in its message.

One of the most perverse and despicable adaptations of a visual novel ever made. The fact that this movie is still watchable despite Snyder's shenanigans says more about Alan Moore's timeless writing ability than any redeemable quality of the former's merits. An insult to fans and audiences alike.

Here I am still figuring out how we're still letting directors get away with romanticized and idealized depictions of pedophilic love interests between underage teens and full grown 25+ year-old adults. It's not sweet, it's not cute. Paul Thomas Anderson could have made Gary a little bit older and Alana a lot younger. Gary's immature and naive disposition would still fit in with his age and character and Alana would be a lot more credible and relatable if she wasn't…
