I first saw this film in theaters at Sundance in 2023, and it has yet to leave my mind. I was finally able to rewatch it and every emotion came flooding back. This story is so heart aching yet inspiring and to me, truly shows how a teacher can impact so many lives. I recommend this movie to everyone.

Whiplash 2014
Some of the best editing I’ve seen. After spending this entire semester studying rhythm in editing and pacing, I thought that this film was a great example of not only tension and release, but how the editing moves you through the piece, lots of cuts on action. It makes sense given the film is about music, but still great. I would say my question for this film is how we are suppose to feel about Fletcher’s character. It’s so hard to like it but you sympathize with him. Great film.

I have always loved this movie. The reason being that I think it sends a great message to kids. Makes me cry everytime. And that Rob Thomas song hits everytime too. So good.

Overall it was a good film. I first saw a clip of this film when writing about its editing in university. I sat down to watch it was impressed. I liked the story and it was interesting to see elements of reality in it like Covid. That being said, the two and a half hours threw me off a little. Although I haven’t researched the reason, I found it to be odd in sections like the beginning interview. I would be curious to learn the reasoning behind this choice. Other parts of the film flowed nicely, and overall I enjoyed it.
