One of my all time favourite feel-good films. One of the few films I’ve watched where the complicated entanglements of mental health struggles are explored in an empathetic way and with 0 stigma. However, it doesn’t give the impression of taking itself too seriously. For me, it perfectly balances comedy and drama.
While the acting and placing of the historical setting were done brilliantly, I found that on the face of it the plot resembled that of a basic, standard murder-mystery.

I found the plot a bit superficial, and provided the film had been marketed as such then, that would be fine. It was funny, the acting was good and the sets were clearly very beautifully and thoughtfully designed. However, while there were a couple of key scenes were deeper themes such as feminism were explored, as a whole I disagree with “Barbie” being classified as a “deep” film.

While the acting could have been better and I wished the plot would have delved a bit deeper, I found ‘También la lluvia’ a very interesting watch. In the film, director Sebastian produces a film with the intention of shedding light on the atrocities that were committed during Christopher Columbus’ colonial conquest of South America, and to do attempting to stop Daniel, the lead character in the film they’re producing, from being politically involved in fighting the Water Wars in…
