  a biopic focused on just 5 years of bob dylan's life, a complete unknown remains focused on its commentary on bob dylan and his music. it analyzes this through his relationships with "his" community. they're all carefully depicted to reveal something about him without ever discussing who he was before 1961. this serves to highlight how important music is as a source of self expression for him. in song he is unrestrained by expecations and can become what he chooses to be. be it a folk singer, activist, romantic, or rock star, the only one that defines who he is is dylan himself.
