Where is the pathos? Why is no one contorting their faces, moving their bodies, in ways to match the language? This is a script where characters must *roar* and gnash their teeth. So much politicking in the monologues but it comes across like rote rehearsal. Convince me of your position, oh mighty Romans!

What a gut-punch of a movie. Every setback is an elegy to humanity, every potential respite a portrait of our worst instincts. Institutions and ideology are a veil for cowards to enact the unconscionable, and what does that get us? Humanity, beaten and bruised, but still standing despite ourselves.
