  A damning indictment of the American vigilante dream. A satire of the fantasy that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun? Maybe not deliberately so, but a bizarrely fascinating watch nonetheless.

  It doesn’t matter how gritty or naturalistic your images are if you can’t be bothered to create characters with a modicum of reality. Each one is a flimsier sketch of a tired, trite stereotype than the last. The story itself was dreadful before the descent into magical realism. Tonally a complete and utter mess.

  There’s a real off putting smugness to the film. It begs you not to take it seriously with all the butt plugs and sausage fingers but obviously believes it’s doing something profound at the same time. It’s an exhaustive two and a half hour sight gag that wants to be an existential head scratcher.

  Having said that it is a superbly made film with expert craftsmanship.
