Upping this from 2.5 to 4… really good rewatch. I’ll be honest, even though I’d seen this before, I still wasn’t really aware that Jarmusch had some of these painterly aesthetics in him. The Deer Hunter 1978
Look….. the story is a bit ridiculous in some ways. But in other ways, it’s the most human and heartrending account of the Vietnam war in cinema. So take your pick. Me, personally, I think the first hour is American sublime filmmaking at its finest.

What bliss this movie is. Cheese perfected as an art form. It's just relentlessly crazy but doesn't feel like it's trying too hard. It's simply the best at it. Travolta and Cage were the perfect actors to pull off this story in such a surreal fashion. Face/Off is a classic
